Click here to go back to Articles STAYING THIN WHILE TRAVELING Don't neglect the fitness and health habits that you have worked hard to develop while you are traveling. It is easy to forget all the good strides you have made toward getting in shape and staying healthy when you are enjoying a vacation or even on a business trip. However, with a bit of awareness and pre-travel preparation, you can still enjoy travel but leave the guilt and extra pounds behind.
Be careful of airport foods. Numerous fast food options lurk in the airport corridors that you race through to catch your connection or meet loved ones. Avoid these traps and seek out the healthier options. Try a light turkey sandwich from Subway instead of McDonald's Chicken McNuggets. Also, be sure to modify food when you can by leaving off heavy dressings, cheeses, and oils and adding healthy veggies instead. When you are on-board the plane, reduce consumption of sugary starchy snacks such as crackers and cookies. Also, order water instead of soda or alcohol. Water helps keep you better hydrated in the dry airplane atmosphere. Try to stay at a hotel that has a fitness room or pool, so you can get a little exercise to help neutralize the "indulgences" you enjoy on your trip. You can also pack resistance bands and exercise in your room. Get plenty of sleep and rest whenever possible to counteract the effects of jet lag. If you are tired, you are more likely to fall into poor nutrition and exercise habits, so try to catch up with any sleep that you have lost ASAP. Check out this article for more info on the steps you can take to stay thin while traveling.
